Hog roast Birthday party

Danny turned 31 on July 11th. I always enjoy his birthday for a couple of reasons but mainly because we all get together at his parents house. Both my family and his. It's nice for everyone to catch up plus we all just have a good time. This year Danny wanted to have a hog roast. He researched it for a couple of months. At first we were going to do the whole hog then after he cam across a couple of blogs, yes blogs, he decided he was going to make a cinder block pit and roast pork butts. Pork butts really aren't butts but actually shoulders. A pork butt is also called a Boston Butt.

My mom has Danny and I hooked on Cherry Salsa. She usually orders it online from Wisconsin. I know it sounds weird but the sweetness is subtle and oh so good!

Danny's BIL Brian bought him an old school Track Ball Game. Brian actually bought Danny his first set when he was a little boy. Apparently it got broken....

Family and friends.

My bubbs, DJ ( isn't he handsome!) and his GF and our mom

As I was taking photos of the roasting process Danny made sure I got a picture of the fire with the pit so everyone got the ambiance. hehe

Raw butt with a mustard glaze - to keep all the juices in

The birthday boy and his homemade roaster/pit

He kept it covered with a piece from a shed.

Don't those look Yummy!

They cooked in 300 degrees for about 6 hours - Until the internal temperature of the hog was 175 degrees.

We ended up getting 3 butts to serve 30 people. That was WAY too much but it was nice because I bagged it up and gave several away. Plus the two of us ate on it for about 3 days. I highly recommend this to everyone.

When I find the original blog site I will post it on here. I want to give credit where credit is due! :)

WeekendS in photos....

So it is summer and I haven't had much free time to blog. I also have been very busy at work which is where I sometimes get inspired for my blog entries. Well I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer so far and trying to stay cool.

This weekend started our County fair, which is my second favorite time of the year. (Christmas is my first.) So I am sure I will report back at the end of the week with all the Delicious items I ate. Not sure about your state fair but we are going to have fried Kool-Aid. Yippie.

So let's see what I have been up to lately.....

We have been swimming a lot, in any body of water we can find.

We have been making smores in our fire pit. I personally just like the toasted marshmallows but the girls love the chocolate of course.

We went to a car show with my dad and step mom. It was hot but a lot of fun.

Gracie getting "sick air" while cooling off.

Lillybug sliding into the pool

A wagon ride at the in-laws for Danny's 31st bday.

We had a hog roast which was a lot of fun. I will do a separate post about that.

Gracie's Rant

Yesterday on our way home from VBS Gracie started talking to me. At first I wasn't really listening b/c let's be honest that girl can talk. Then I started really listening to what she was saying. Apparently something had set her off and she was getting upset. To sum it up here is what she had to say.....

"When I get home there better not be trash in our yard. I know our neighbors did it and that is bad isn't it mommy? Trash does not belong in the yard it belongs in the trash can. If I see one piece of trash I am going to tell Daddy and then guess what, we might call the police. Mommy there won't be thrash will there b/c we will just move if our neighbors put trash in our yard again. Daddy said only toys can be in the yard........"

Well I just couldn't help but laugh I mean seriously a 4 year old going off about our neighbors putting trash in our yard. We occasionally get polar pops in our yard, we live across from a park so I think that is too be expected. But the other night someone threw a stuffed gorilla, a juice box and random egg shells in our back yard. She must have been reliving that whole "experience" She is just too funny and quite entertaining.

Good news: there was no trash. Even better news our neighbors have moved out, let's just hope the new neighbors are a little more tidy. I would hate for Gracie to get mad.

4th of July Dresses

I love the 4th of July. Actually I pretty much love any Holiday especially if we get to celebrate it by not having to work and getting to eat good food. I am nostalgic.

So Danny and I went Kohl's shopping the other day. I found the cutest 4th of July dresses for the girls. There were a few different styles and I wasn't sure which I liked so I kept asking Danny. And his response was: "it doesn't really matter you don't even need a special dress for the 4th of July."

Excuse me? Have you ever met me? Yes they do!

Husbands when will they ever learn....

Ladies I am not alone here right, don't we all buy Special Occasion dresses whether it be for us or our children?

Now I am on the lookout for a Nice 4th of July shirt for him.....lol
